Rajasthan is currently facing very heavy rainfall, which has badly affected normal life in many districts. In response to the situation, the District Disaster Management Authority, led by District Collector Dr Jitendra Kumar Soni, has ordered the closure of all Anganwadi centres and government as well as private schools in Jaipur on Monday, 25th August, and Tuesday, 26th August. The decision was taken to ensure the safety of children as heavy rains continue to disrupt daily activities.
The order comes after several parts of the state reported flooding, waterlogging, and damage to property due to continuous rainfall since the weekend.
Heavy rainfall warning and disruptions
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that heavy to extremely heavy rainfall will continue across Rajasthan. The Jaipur Meteorological Centre explained that the monsoon trough line is currently passing through the state, which is causing intense rainfall in southern and southeastern districts.
According to the forecast, the heavy rain that began on 24th August is likely to continue through 25th and 26th August. Authorities have therefore asked people to take precautions, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow weather advisories.
The constant downpour has already caused major problems in several areas. Waterlogging, road damage, flash floods, and transportation disruptions have been reported. Many families from lower-lying areas have been shifted to safer places as rising water levels pose a serious risk. The authorities are working to provide relief and support in the worst-affected districts.
Kota, Bundi, Sawai Madhopur, and Tonk are among the places experiencing flood-like conditions. In Jaipur, the state capital, rains began early Saturday and led to the collapse of a section of a wall near the Amer Fort area. Fortunately, no casualties were reported. However, the incident highlights the seriousness of the situation and the need for caution.
Rail and road traffic have also been impacted as water has accumulated on highways and tracks. Public transport has slowed down, and daily life in many cities has come to a halt due to submerged roads and rising water.
Most affected areas and rainfall data
The rains have particularly damaged areas in Kota, Bundi, Tonk, and Sawai Madhopur, where waterlogging and overflowing drains have forced people to stay indoors. Relief operations are ongoing, but the continuous rain is making it difficult for authorities to reach some places.
In Jaipur, the situation is concerning as water has accumulated in several localities, creating traffic jams and inconvenience for residents. Authorities have deployed emergency teams to clear drains and assist people stuck in flooded areas.
The IMD rainfall statistics further show how widespread and intense the rain has been. On Saturday:
-
Karauli received 41.5 mm of rainfall.
-
Anta-Baran and Chittorgarh recorded 39 mm.
-
Dausa had 33.5 mm, while Jaipur received 29.5 mm.
-
Vansathli recorded 20.4 mm, and Kota saw 18 mm.
-
Bhilwara recorded 17 mm, while Pilani and Sikar got 15 mm each.
-
Ajmer received 10.8 mm of rainfall.
These figures highlight how widespread the heavy rains are across Rajasthan, with nearly all regions experiencing significant downpours.
The administration is closely monitoring the situation and has urged citizens to remain alert. Residents are advised to stay indoors during periods of heavy rain, avoid waterlogged areas, and follow all official safety guidelines. Relief teams, including disaster management officials, have been stationed in vulnerable areas to provide immediate help if needed.

Authorities on high alert
The continuous rainfall has created a sense of worry across the state. For many families, especially in rural and low-lying urban areas, the priority is safety and shelter. With schools and Anganwadi centres closed in Jaipur, parents are being asked to keep children at home until conditions improve.
Officials have also emphasized that the public should not ignore weather updates, as the rainfall could intensify further. Preparations are in place for possible evacuations if water levels rise in rivers and drains.
The coming days are crucial for Rajasthan as authorities balance relief efforts with preventive measures to protect lives and property. As of now, no major casualties have been reported, but damage to infrastructure, homes, and transport systems remains a big concern.
The decision to close schools in Jaipur is expected to reduce movement and ensure that children remain safe during this period of heavy rainfall. Residents are being urged to remain patient, cooperate with officials, and prioritize safety over daily routines until the situation stabilizes.
